We have a fabulous friend in Jana Jensen— SAR's most generous financial supporter.
Jana learned
about Josephine County SAR the hard way when her beloved son drowned in the Illinois River in 2000.
Heavy rains had changed the river's hydrodynamics which caused Nick Jensen, who knew and loved the river, to get trapped underwater where swift currents prevented him from being rescued. Compounding the tragedy was the difficulty SAR had trying to retrieve his body.
Witnessing firsthand how limited resources and equipment hampered the SAR divers' recovery work, Jana has dedicated herself to helping SAR get the equipment and training it uses to help save lives. Jana's generosity has made a critical difference for many people SAR has aided since Nick died.
Jana raises money for SAR by sponsoring a series of bike races each fall— the Southern Oregon Outlaw Cyclocross Races. These races are a "steeplechase" event for bikes usually run in wet and muddy conditions (that's why they have these events in fall and winter). We will give you more info on the events this fall, but plan on attending (no charge to spectators), participating, or helping Jana run the event (SAR members help out at the event).
Need a bike or does your bike need a little tweaking? Jana runs a great bike shop, Cycle Analysis, in jacksonville.
