Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A volunteer organization is trying a new tactic to find the body of a man police say was killed and dumped in the desert.
Red Rock Search and Rescue is the group who continues to search for the body of a Keith Goldberg, and now that we are hitting triple digit temperatures they're moving the effort to after dark.
That may give them a new edge. In a line, one by one, these volunteers are out doing more than hiking. They're looking for someone's brother.
"We're coming out into the washes area and we're taking each individual wash and having one or two people precisely walk, looking for any signs of the ground disturbed," says Mark Criddle, a medical officer for Red Rock Search and Rescue.
Keith Goldberg was last seen January 31, 2012. Since then, two people are facing charges for his murder. His ex-girlfriend and her estranged husband. During the investigation, detectives learned one of the suspects cell phone pinged a local tower.
"This is the area that Metro believes that is the best possibility that they may have placed his body," says Criddle.
Fifty square miles, as far as the eye can see, volunteers have walked this tough terrain. They hope to find Keith and bring closure to the Goldberg family.
Nine weeks. These volunteers have searched for irregularities in the desert landscape. Footsteps, debris, even sunken graves.
For the first time they are holding the search after dark.
"With the heat it is actually a little bit nicer. Today has been an excellent day to search. With the wind it's been actually kind of nice to search today," says Criddle.
As the sun sets, Red Rock Search and Rescue continues undeterred. Refusing to lose hope.
"It will take a very long time to clear it, and we are determined to clear it all," says Criddle.
More than 80 volunteers showed up Friday night. They say they are going to continue to search for Keith until he is found.
