Officials responded to a mother and daughter in need of assistance on the Helena Valley Regulating Reservoir on Sunday afternoon.
A 30-year-old mother and her 4-year-old daughter lost an oar while on a raft, according to Lewis and Clark Sheriff Leo Dutton. The mother called for help shortly after noon because the winds and rain made it impossible to get to shore with only one oar.
“They were stuck and paddling in circles,” Dutton said.
Members of Lewis and Clark Search and Rescue Divers responded and helped the pair get to shore using a kayak about 12:40 p.m. Dutton said mother and daughter were cold but pulled from the water safely.
