BEND, Ore. -- Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue helped an injured cross-country skier Saturday who fell while skiing at Virginia Meissner Sno-Park, deputies said.
SAR and sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 1:15 p.m. on a report of an injured cross-country skier, later identified as Dave Ross, 55, of Bend, said sheriff’s Deputy Jim Whitcomb.
Six SAR members responded to the area and found Ross around 2 p.m., about a mile north of the parking lot, on the Tangent Loop trail.
Whitcomb said Ross had fallen while sliding down a section of the trail that is moderately steep and curves to the skier’s right.
Ross, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was taken by snowmobile back to the parking lot, and a family member took him to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend. A nursing supervisor said he was treated and released.
