Cowlitz County sheriff's Chief Criminal Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig says no one has heard from 26-year-old Yosuke Onishi since Nov. 27.
A woman who hitchhiked with Onishi to Cougar, Wash., on Nov. 26 told a deputy she believed the man was intent on finding a ride to the famous Washington volcano. A motel employee says the man borrowed snow shoes. Investigators say Onishi was seen getting into a car on Nov. 27 with a man and woman inside. The owner of a deli in Cougar says the car that picked the young man up returned later the same morning. Its occupants said Onishi was "still up there."
Skamania County officers are overseeing search efforts on the mountain. Cowlitz County sheriff's officers are trying to find the couple who gave Onishi a ride.
